Excerpt from How I Kept My Baby Well
The fact that the Journal of Educational Psychology has defined its scope to include the consideration of child psychology and hygiene justifies the inclusion in the allied series of Educational Psychology Monographs of the material set forth in the present volume.
Mrs. Noyes has, we believe, made a contribution of real interest to physicians and nurses, to mothers and fathers, and to students of childhood generally. The value of her work is twofold. On the one hand, it points the way to a method and type of observation that any intelligent mother can undertake with profit to herself and to others, and in so far disproves the contention of some critics of the child-study movement that observations of young children by their own mothers can never yield data of real value, on the other hand, it furnishes generalizations in the shape of principles or rules governing feeding, clothing, and the general control of infant development that will be of direct utility to those who, like the author, face that vital problem - how to keep the baby well. Mrs. Noyes has displayed commendable caution in drawing these generalizations.
