Excerpt from Historical Notes: Or Essays on the '15 and '45 The Essays, which are printed in this volume, were contributed to the Press during the last few years, and are given in this form because it was represented to me that these papers should be rendered more accessible to historical students. The original documents, upon which the articles on the Lords Reay, the Earldom of Ross, and Lord Seaforth's campaign are founded, are among the MSS. in the British Museum, and Public Record Office.
