This is the monograph of Dr Alexander Inglis, The Rise of the High School in Massachusetts. Doctor Inglis limited his study largely to the period previous to 1860 and, aside from indicating the progress of legislation in the state, he established conclusively the number of schools founded in that period and the nature of the curriculum.
