There has been a great improvement in machinery in general, as well as in the construction of the buildings of the mills. To-day the buildings are all well lighted and almost perfectly ventilated, and the ¿oors are of hard, smooth maple, and too, the ¿oors are regularly scrubbed and are kept sweet and clean. In the scrubbing of the ¿oors they use a disinfecting compound which' kills a'll germs and is a protection to.the health of the opera tives.When I first began work in the mills they did not have the well lighted and ventilated buildings that they have now, and the ¿oor, oh, my! Scour them! If any one had suggested such a thing they would probably have been taken for crazy and hurried off to an asylum.
