Excerpt from Full Details of the Railway Disaster of the 12th of March, 1857, at the Desjardin Canal, on the Line of the Great Western RailwayOn the afternoon of that day (1857) there left Toronto the usual pas senger train for Hamilton. As near as can be ascertained, there were about one hundred persons on the train. The usual calls were made at the way stations, and the train arrived. At the Desjardin Junction at its appointed time, having taken on about the same number as had been set down, so that the train was much about as we have stated it. When approaching the Junction, the customary signals were given, and the train was brought on from the Toronto Branch (as the Hamilton and Toronto Railroad is called) into the main line of the Great Western Road. But before we proceed fur ther, it may be well to explain the condition of things at this point - a point which has now acquired a world-wide fame for death and disaster.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
