Excerpt from Fourth Annual Report of the State Board of Arbitration of Illinois, March 1, 1899Under the law as amended it is in the power of a body of employés who are dissatisfied with the terms of their employment to cause an investigation to be made by the Board of Arbitration, which will bring out facts enabling them to pursue a wise and just course. Quite as true also is it that the employer whose employés make de mands which he is unwilling to grant, may secure an investigation by the Board which will lay before the employés and the public, in an authentic form, all of the facts pertaining to the subject-matter of the controversy. This power of investigation, vastly increased by the foregoing amendment, will, it is believed, not only in¿uence public opinion, but will enlighten parties to labor controversies so as to frequently avert threatened strikes and lockouts, or to bring exist ing difficulties to a pacific conclusion.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
