Growing conditions were generally good to excellent over most of the farming areas in August. Planting activity progressed favor ably. Rains resulting from hurricanes, cool fronts and a tropical storm slowed plantings in September. High winds damaged crops but little acreage was lost when Hurricane David moved up the east coast in early September.
