Excerpt from Errors in the Determination of SilicaThe residues the blast. Each was then dissolved by digestion with con - centrated hydrochloric acid. The solution was then diluted to about 100 cc, heated to boiling, made slightly alkaline with ammonia and the precipitate if any filtered out. Ammonium oxalate was then added to the boiling filtrate and the precipitated calcium oxalate allowed to settle, after which it was collected on a filter ignited and weighed as calcium oxide.
