Each variety and location of growth were represented by early-season, midseason, and late-season samples, except in 5 cases as noted below., The total number of localities from which samples were obtained was 111 and, on the basis of 3 samples per locality, the total number of cottons theoretically should be 333. The actual number of cottons that became available for testing, however, was 328.
