Many of the demonstrations in the previous edition have been simplified by him, and in nearly every instance where a question has arisen the author has finally deferred to Lieut. Gordon's better judgment. The author is also under great obligations to Lieut. Sidney E. Stuart, Ordnance Department, who has carefully gone over the work, and suggested important changes which, in most cases, have been adopted.
