Excerpt from Education and the Army: An Essay in ReconstructionIt is with considerable diffidence that I set myself to try and give some account of the origins, development, and purpose of the great adult education movement in the Army which it fell to my lot to organize and direct. Such account must of necessity be rather of a personal character, and it seemed better, therefore, if it was thought to be necessary at all, that it should be written by an observer rather than by a participator.
