Excerpt from Edinburgh Medical Journal, Vol. 20: Comprising the Monthly Journal of Medicine and the Edinburgh Medical and Surgical Journal, Part II., January to June 1875I have thus, Gentlemen, made some observations on the objects which the founders of the Society had in view, and one of the ways, the library, in which these were carried out by their succes sors. Perhaps rt may be of some interest to many of you to know somethin more of these founders than their mere names, and I venture t erefore to give you a short histo of one or two of them regarding whom we possess information. Have already told you, that although they were never members of the Society as formally constituted, there were in 1734 six gentlemen to whom we in reality owe the idea of its establishment. I take them in the order in which they are named by Lettsom, in the note formerly quoted from his life of Fothergill.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
