Melbourme's leafy university precincts are in the grip of a terrifying series of events. Young female students are being abducted and held overnight. Some are being sexually assaulted. A young professional couple living in Melbourne begin receiving disturbing telephone calls at home and at work. The caller appears to know them. He calls himself a 'motherless child' and says he is 'practicing'. On realizing this man could be the offender, the couple involve the police who are just as baffled. Tragically the man starts to murder his victims leaving a trail of shock and despair. The telephone calls continue but no-one can make any connection ... but there must be one! As the killings continue, the 'motherless child' becomes more and more familiar with the couple. Eventually they become more involved than anyone would ever wish to be as events rush to a terrifying conclusion and the killer's identity is revealed.
