Excerpt from Early History of HollisThe first white settler of the part of Dunstable, since known as Hollis, was Peter Powers, afterward a captain of provincial troops in the old French war in which Quebec was taken. Capt. Powers was a native of Littleton, Mass., and removed from that place to the part of Dunstable now known as Nashua in 1728. In the fall of 1730, he made his way through the then unbroken wilderness, selected a place for a new home about a half mile N. W. Of the present meeting-house, and in the spring following settled upon it with his family. This was the only white family within the present limits of the town till the summer of 17 32, when Eleazer Flagg, the ancestor of the Hollis families of that name, settled in what is now the south-west part of the town, about three miles from Capt. Powers. The third family was that of Thomas Dinsmore.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
