Eadwine's Canterbury Psalter, Vol. 2

Excerpt from Eadwine's Canterbury Psalter, Vol. 2: Edited, With Introduction And Notes, From The Manuscript in Trinity College, Cambridge, Text And NotesAn edition of Eadwine's Canterbury Psalter (the name by which the Manuscript is popularly called in Cambridge) was undertaken about eighteen years ago by Dr. W. Aldis Wright when Librarian of Trinity College but, through pressure of other literary work and increasing College duties, he was obliged, after having copied the English gloss, to put the work on one side for an indefinite period. Calling upon him last summer, he kindly offered to give me his copy as soon as I found an Opportunity of editing. For this copy, for the loan of necessary books, and for other help given during the progress of the work, I owe him my grateful acknowledgments.Dr. Wright's copy was again carefully collated with the Manuscript and the Latin text added before going to press. The Manuscript was a second time gone through for the erasures, which caused considerable difficulty: and for the footnotes in which these are given (as for the text too, in its present form) I am alone responsible. Finally the proofsheets were collated with the Manuscript to avoid any misreadings which might have been left in the copy, but my stay in Cam bridge being a limited one, I only found time to correct the English, the final revision of the Latin being generously undertaken by Mr. James G. Frazer, Fellow of the College. For this timely aid I take this opportunity of expressing my great obligations. Prof. A. S. Napier and Prof. T. Northcote Toller were also kind enough to look at certain peculiar forms which occur in the text, and to the Librarians of Trinity College, especially to Mr. White, thanks are due for the ready way in which they placed the Manuscript at my disposal.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
