Excerpt from Discourse Delivered in the First Baptist Church, Providence, R. I: On the Day of Public Thanksgiving, July 21, 1842At a special meeting of the Charitable Baptist Society, held this day, it was unanimously Resolved, That the thanks of this Society be pre sented to the Rev. Dr. Wayland, for his interesting and instructive Discourse, delivered before said Society on Thursday last, being the day appointed by the Governor of this State, by virtue of a resolution of the General Assembly, to be observed by its citizens as a day of public Thanksgiving and Praise to God, 'for the signal interposition of his kind and fatherly love, so recently and strikingly manifested in rescuing them from the horrors of civil war, anarchy and death, ' and that he be requested to furnish a copy of the same for the press.
