Detection and Monitoring of some Tephritidate of Fruit Trees in Sudan

The present study was carried out in South Kordofan State, particularly in Abugubeiha to identify fruit fly species prevailing in the area and to determine their host range as well as Infestation levels due to their fruit flies. The field Monitoring of Tephritid fruit fly species using Nulure as food attractant in Abugubeiha area revealed the presence of three species namely Mango fruit fly Ceratitis cosyra, dominant species in the region, Melon fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae and Asian fly, Bactrocera invadens.Ten plant species out of 24 were identified as hosts for the three mentioned species. Infestation a level causes by fruit fly in Abugubeiha area was much higher (67%) in Guava the second season. While in first season the higher recorded in Guava (51%) followed by mango (31%) and grapefruit (18%) respectively. Bactrocera invadens was detected a long the Rahad River near Sudanese-Ethiopian borders for the first time by using Lynnfield trap baited with mixture of 4 parts of methyl-eugenol as an attractant and 1 part of malathion as killing agent.
