Lindane (gamma hexachlorohexane) is the most toxic of all the isomers of hexachlorohexane and has powerful insecticidal properties and it is used for the control of insects of field crops and pests in houses. One of the main routes of human exposure is food contamination where its residues has been found in water, milk, cooking oil and fisH. In the liver, lindane is thought to act by interfering with hepatic oxidative capacity and glutathione metabolism. The first goal of this study, was to explore the histopathological effect of lindane in the heart, and role of CK and ET-1 in heart toxicity in male rats. While, the second goal, was to test the hypothesis that curcumin had cardioprotective and antioxidant roles against these toxic effects.
