The rapid growth of the Internet has drasticallyaltered the scene of human communication andpresented new challenges to traditionalcross-cultural adaptation (CCA) research. This bookis intended to bridge CCA and Internet research byexamining the role of the Internet in thecross-cultural adaptation process. The researcherexplored how different Internet use patterns, interms of amount and type (host Internet use andethnic Internet use), affect Chinese students'sociocultural and psychological adaptation to theAmerican culture. A model of Internet use in CCA wasproposed and tested. The results showed thatindividual differences, Internet use motives and hostInternet use are significant predictors forpsychological adaptations. It is hoped that the studywill not only draw more attention from interculturalcommunication scholars in studying CCA in the newmedia environment, but also will shed some light onthe social and cultural consequences of Internet usein a unique context.
