Since the very dawn of philosophical.enquiry, the nature and destiny of self has been the most fascinating and also the most perplexing problem for human thought. The indubitable reality of the self is a fact capable of being universally admitted, and that is the reason why we find many thinkers in the East and the West starting their speculations with the_ initial admission of the reality of the self. What is most intimate to man is, perhaps, in actuality, most mysterious to him. This is the paradox of the self. Man can never doubt the existence of his own 'self, but, when asked to describe its structure, he finds himself in a quandary. The unity of the self is "subjective" and experiential, not logical, the discrepancy which our logical thinking perceives within the self is his own creation and, once it is created, there is no way of resolving it.
