Excerpt from Columbia University Bulletin of Information, February 27, 1932: Report of the Dean of the School of Medicine, for the Period Ending June 30, 1931Conditions of modern living are partly responsible for mental and emotional distortion in an increasing number of people and are leading to an appreciable increase in the nervous and mental disorders, particularly in the functional disorders many of which produce serious impairment and often are mistaken for organic disease.
