Excerpt from Code of the City of Selma: To Which Is Pre¿xed the City Charter and Amendments Thereto Sec. 2. Bo etfurtlzor enacted, That the government of said city shall be styled The City Council of Selma, and shall consist of a chief o¿icer, to be styled Mayor of the City of Selma, and five com mon councilmen, each to be elected by the legal voters of the city, the person receiving the highest number of legal votes for the office of mayor will be elected mayor, and the fivepersons receiving the highest number of legal votes for councilmen Will be elected councilmen, every citizen of said city who Would be a legal voter at an election for members of the legislature will be a legal voter at such elections for mayor and councilmen Provided, He shall have been actually or legally a resident of said city for six.
