Charities and the Commons, Vol. 15

Excerpt from Charities and the Commons, Vol. 15: February 3, 1906My interest in the question of the adult blind is neither sentimental nor patho logical, but simply sociological. I might tell you of old men and women in pitiable plight, but they are often over eighty years old and would be nearly as badly oii with their sight, again of a graduate of a school for the blind who may have been a¿orded the utmost advantages the school can give and yet be unable to support himself, but he is likely to be diseased in body or per verted in mind or to have defects of charac ter which would make his success impossible if he had the best of sight. I am not ready to generalize or to give an answer to the problem until I know all the elements of it. It is like a question in proportion with many terms, the distress of individuals be ing but one term. I have great fear of movements started by those whose eyes are too full of tears for perfect vision or whose hearts are so large as to take all the blood which belongs to both the heart and head.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
