Excerpt from Catalogue of the Collection of English Porcelain: In the Department of British and Mediaeval Antiquities and Ethnography of the British Museum The following Catalogue is the complement of the Catalogue of English Pottery in the Museum published in 1903. The bulk of the collection here described was presented by the late Sir Augustus Wollaston Franks, K. C. B. His aim was to gather together such examples of the various wares as would best illustrate the history of the factories, preferring documentary pieces to such as were merely of decorative value. It would not be possible to fix a limit of date in a collection of this class, but comparatively few of the pieces are less than a century old.
