This book constitutes a social history of casino style gaming in the United Kingdom and how it has been shaped by regulation or a lack of regulation since the 1914. In particular, it focuses on the development and regulation of gaming clubs or casinos between 1960 and 2007. The study fills a gap in historical inquiry while drawing on some primary source material that has not been used previously, notably the records of the Gaming Board, Home Office and the Metropolitan Police supplemented by oral testimony.
