In 1991, after years of civil war, Cambodias warring factions allow the UN to set up elections. Tom Riddle is hired to work with voter registration. While working in the computer center, he is struck by lightning and hires the entrancing Sovan. But things dont go smoothly for Cambodia. Skirmishes and massacres ensue. Nevertheless, the election is judged a success. However, Riddles romance is not so successful when two months later, as he leaves Cambodia, Sovan turns down his offers of marriage.
