Glaisher and Coxwell. Ere I had become fairly launched in the task I had undertaken, Mr. Coxwell was suddenly called away from us at a ripe old age, and I treasure a long hearty letter of his - one of the very last he ever wrote - in which he recalls the work for which his professional services were required a generation ago. In those days substantial grants of money were readily given by the Royal Society and the British Association towards scientific ballooning, and results of the highest importance were secured which placed England far in the fore-front of this branch of physical investigation.
