Excerpt from Bulletin of the Scientific Laboratories of Denison University, 1898-1902, Vol. 11 This island is composed of Corniferous rocks. The best exposures are in two quarries, one on the north side of the island and the other on the southwest. The maximum thickness of the exposed section is about 36 feet. Near the surface the rock is shaly, but it becomes thicker below, and near the bot tom of the quarry a bed 10 feet thick is found. This stone is softer than that to the south.
