Local native peoples told stories by the firelight using dance. The characters wore masks carved from cedar trees. We've adopted some of these traditions. We use masks when we tell our grandchildren stories around the fire. We tell the story of Birdman and Bear. Once upon a time there lived Bear in the land of the bear. Bear was the leader of his people. Far away from the land of the bear was the land where the eagle flew. Birdman lived in the land where the eagle flew and was the leader of his people.
