Der Humanist Bartolomeo della Fonte, auch Bartholomaeus Fontius, wurde 1446 in Florenz geboren und wirkte seit 1469 am Hof von Borso d'Este in Ferrara, seit 1471 wieder in Florenz, später auch in Rom, Ragusa / Dubrovnik und Buda. Er verfertigte zahlreiche Übersetzungen, Editionen und Kommentare antiker Texte wie Reden von Demosthenes oder Satiren von Persius. Außerdem hielt er umfangreiche Lehrveranstaltungen und verfaßte eigene Prosa, z. B. eine Rombeschreibung, sowie Gedichte, etwa eine Elegiensammlung. Er starb 1513 bei Florenz. Sein mit dieser Publikation ediertes Exemplar der Argonautika gehört zur Erstedition des Textes [Bologna 1474] und enthält zahlreiche handschriftliche Kommentierungen von Fontius, die sich anhand von Farbe und Strichstärke mindestens fünf Zeitschichten zuweisen lassen und mit seiner öffentlichen Erklärung des Textes in den akademischen Jahren 1475/76, 78/79, 81/82 und 1503/04 einsetzen. Der Wert der Textkritik Fontius' liegt darin, daß viele seiner Änderungen und Konjekturen sich in späteren Editionen finden und einige sogar besser sind als die in bisherigen Editionen. The Humanist Bartolomeo della Fonte, also Bartholomaeus Fontius, was born in Florence in 1446 and worked at the court of Borso d'Este in Ferrara from 1469 onwards. From 1471 he was back to Florence and later he also worked in Rome, Ragusa / Dubrovnik, and Buda. He made numerous translations, editions, and commentaries of antique texts such as speeches by Demosthenes or satires by Persius. Additionally, he held substantial lectures and wrote his own prose, e. g. a description of the city of Rome, and poems, e. g. a collection of elegies. He died near Florence in 1513. The present edition is dedicated to Fontius's own copy of the first printed edition of the Argonautica [Bologna 1474], which contains many handwritten commentaries by himself. According to colour and line width they can be attributed to at least five chronological layers beginning with his public explanations of the text in the academical years of 1475/76, 78/79, 81/82, and 1503/04. The value of Fontius's text criticism lies in the fact that many of his changes and conjectures appear in later editions and some are even better than the ones in existing editions.
