The History of Bangladeshis 'in Greater Manchester is ahugely significant project that charted the arrival, settlement, and progress of Bangladeshis' in the UK.The oral presentations record their journey focusing onfamily life, education, employment, culture religion, andtraditions.Many of the first settlers are now elderly (many sadlypassed away) and their memories and experiences arebeing lost as their testimonies have not been recordedand preserved.Over 5 years, I spoke to more than 50 people, the first generationBangladeshis' who gave me a snapshot oftheir life, early days, experiences, hardships, and muchmore, an insight that was eye-opening, fascinating, andfull of happiness, sadness, hardship, hope, and aspiration.I have captured the valued experiences and memories ofso many who have paved the way and helped us to makethis area a rich, vibrant, and dynamic place to live withtheir customs, traditions and folklore that are beingpassed on to new generations of Bangladeshis and futuregenerations from those "hardened by Manchester" whohave lived through the changes that Britain hasundergone in the last 60 years
