Utopia and Daily Life  What did it mean to live as a Jew in an officially anti-fascist society and aspiring socialist utopia? With the exhibition "Another Country, " the Jewish Museum Berlin takes a look at Jewish experiences in the GDR and thus makes visible an often invisible part of divided Germany's post-war history. Through interviews, everyday objects, art, literature, and film, the exhibition tells the story of Jewish life in the GDR, raising questions about self-definitions and self-identifications. The book accompanying the exhibition shows the exhibited objects and offers a multi-voiced contribution to contemporary German-Jewish history. In addition to an historical overview, 17 essays provide insights into various topics, including remigration, East Berlin, Jewish childhood and youth in the GDR, community life, and state issues. In cooperation with the Jewish Museum Berlin With texts by Sandra Anusiewicz-Baer, Inka Bertz,  Michael Brenner, Lara Dämmig, Sonia Combe, Cathy Gelbin, Olaf Glöckner, Philipp Graf, Steffen Heidrich, Barbara Honigmann, Mario Keßler, Annette Leo, Tamar Lewinsky, Martina Lüdicke, Jalda Rebling, Miriam Rürup, Lisa Schoß, Hermann Simon, Ofer Waldmann, Alexander Walther and Theresia Ziehe
