Excerpt from Anniversary Address: Delivered at the Baptist Church, North Adams, MassWe stand to-day bathed in the splendor of two eras - the era of '76 and the era Of '65-the era of birth and the era of manhood. Our Fathers broke the yoke of Britain, you have broken the yoke of the slaveholders.The promise of the Revolution is fulfilled. The Declaration of Jefferson has blossomed in the Proclamation of Lincoln. The cannon Of '65 have blown to atoms what the cannon of '76 only wounded.And, fellow citizens, this last four years' struggle, from which we have just emerged, has been only a continuation and comple~ tion of the Revolutionary war.
