But from the time that Bacon brought out his new Organum, the Old logic began gradually to fall year by year more into disfavour. It was seen that no new truth could be gained by means of the old logic, the conclusion of every syllogism being in fact contained in the premisses, and therefore no advance could be made beyond those premisses.
