Excerpt from An Evaluation of Physical and Biological Controls on Coastal Erosion in the Indiana Dunes National LakeshoreWhen the National Park Service published it's master plan for development of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, in 1969, they recommended that the area along the northeastern extremity of the Lakeshore be maintained as an interpretation and natural study area. This area, which includes the existing Michigan City West Beach and Mt. Baldy, was planned to have limited use dependent upon dune and beach stability. It was, therefore, the intent of National Park Service that any alteration or construction within this area adhere to the philosophy of maintaining the natural environmental conditions.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
