'it is of course desirable to avoid metaphysical expressions as far as possible: that is to say, expressions which belong only to the science of metaphysics. But we cannot escape the truth that ideas are metaphysical facts, and not physical: and that all exchange of thought is exchange of ideas, whether it be of thoughts about art, or anything else.
