The remainder is divided into three states: Sarawak, which occupies a long strip of territory on the west coast and has an English ruler (raja Brooke), British North Borneo, governed by a Chartered Company, towards the northern end of the island, and the little native state of Brunei, wedged between these two, which have both eu riched themselves at her expense.
