Excerpt from American Book-Prices Current: A Record of Books, Manuscripts, and Autographs Sold at Auction in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, From September 1, 1903, to September 1, 1904, With the Prices RealizedPerhaps the most characteristic feature of the season was the unusual number of expensive subscription books (so-called) which have been thrown (and this seems to be the proper word to use) upon the auction market. The greatest collection of this sort ever sold was the magnificent library of Howard T. Goodwin, which was sold by Mr. Henkels in three sales, Part I, October 22, 23, and 24, Part II, November 12, 13, and 14, and Part III, December 10, 11, and 12, 1903.The three Goodwin catalogues were illustrated with a number of reproductions of bindings in colors, probably the finest ever appearing in any American auction catalogue.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
