All Hookers Go To Heaven is a coming-of-age story following a working-class sex worker from a rural town in Eastern Canada. Mag is raised in a conservative Christian home where she is urged to preserve her purity at all costs. Despite her efforts to reject the hyper-sexual youth culture of her small town, she falls for a girl named Marlous while attending a program designed to usher young people into Evangelical Missionary work.Spiraling into shame and regret, Mag breaks away from the Church and launches herself into the world of sex for hire, in an attempt to shed her repressive past and transform the trajectory of her life. Her foray into sex work, however, is marked by various pit falls, including coercive club managers, dangerous clients, substance abuse, and corrupt police. She finds herself chasing an elusive, ever-shifting concept of financial security, which develops into a problematic conflation of money and self-worth.Ultimately Mag must come to terms with herself, her sexuality, and her faith, and imagine a world where these things exist in symbiosis. Present throughout her journey is a discussion of boundary-forging, the redemptive nature of friendships, and the eco-systems of so-called “degenerate” and “upscale” spaces.
