Excerpt from A School Grammar of the Latin LanguageR, r, S, s, T, t, X, at, (z, z). With regard to their classification, it is only necessary here to observe, that l, m, n, r are called liquids (liquidate), and the rest mutes (mntae), with the exception of s, which, being a sibilant (littera sibilans), is of a peculiar nature. The mutes may again be classified, with reference to the organ by which they are pronounced, into labials (v, 6, p, f), palatals (g, c, If, ya), and linguals (d, t). X and z (called zeta) are double consonants.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
