Mr. Russell commences his book with the statement that throughout the 17th and 18th centuries Geometry remained, in the war against empiricism, an impregnable fortress of the idealists, meaning that they successfully maintained the position that in Geometry at least we had obtained certain knowledge about the real world, independently of experience.
