The define of doing me that mischief in Europe which yon failed of doing in India, induced you to permit to remain on the face of the East India Company's records, personal reflections relating to me, which are false, malicious, and, . groundless -, and which no man, who has the least pretensions to the character of a gentleman, would have suffered to remain, after he had commissioned a third person to retract the assertions in his name.
