I have, therefore, preferred to curtail description, and to devote the pages so gained to tables which I think all travellers will find of use.These have been necessarily somewhat amplified, as I have thought it advisable to give one or two of them both in French and English measures. Indeed, one of the main difficulties experienced in writing a guide is the conflicting system of measures in use in England and m France.
