Accessible and Teachable: Richard Meier directs the creative writing program at Carthage College. He also curates and directs the Visiting Writers Series. Previously, he held a full-time position as visiting poet at Columbia College in Chicago and was an assistant professor of English at Beloit College, where he was also director of creative writing. He has been published in many esteemed journals including Lana Turner, Tammy, Conjunctions, 1913: A Journal of Forms, Evening Will Come, Columbia Poetry Review, Paris Review, and others. This is his fifth book of poetry, and other books have been published through Omnidawn, Verse, and Oxeye Press.Workshop leader: Before becoming a professor Meier poetry writing to elementary school students in New York with Teachers and Writers Collaborative and in Chicago with Hands on Stanza, where he received the Gwendolyn Brooks Prize for excellence in teaching. Recently, he led several workshops on poetry and walking, including in 2018 at the Lynden Sculpture Garden in Milwaukee.
