Excerpt from A Discourse on the Public Duties of Medical Men: Delivered as an Introductory Lecture at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in the City of New-York, November 2d, 1846If the spread of pestilential fevers depend upon a conta gion transmitted from one individual to another, and capa ble of being transported from place to place, it is obvious that the means of checking their diffusion Should be found ed upon principles corresponding with the laws, which are known to govern the extension of disorders confessedly contagious.
