Matters of merely historical interest, and topics collateral to the special subject, have been systematically excluded. It has been deemed unnecessary to treat of the details of judicial procedure, or to insert a large number of precedents of leases, since the professional reader has already on his shelves works on these topics of the highest authority and value. A few simple forms of leases are, however, appended, and forms of notices, &c., , will be found in the foot notes, under the respective subjects to which they relate. The plan of the Author has been, as far as possible, to state the law in the language of the authorities by whom it was established.
