Excerpt from A Brief Description of the Hamlet of Heighham, Norwich: Its Ancient and Modern History, Churches, Chapels, Population, EtcIn 1845, however, through the liberality Of Mr. (afterwards Sir) Morton Pete, who subsequently represented Norwich in Parliament, 3. School for girls, boys, and infants was erected in the locality now called Sayer's Buildings, near Heigham Street. It was vested in trustees, and was conducted under the British and Foreign School Society's system, viz., that Of allowing the Bible to be read without note or comment. The good work was carried on for many years under efficient managers, but shortly after the introduction of the School Board system into Norwich, it was determined to discontinue the day schools. The building is, however, still used, as from the outset, for the purposes Of a Sunday School.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
