Of course, all its advantages do not appear in the following Biographical Sketch. Important, however, as its advantages are, we would have been unwilling to disturb the bar mony of the phonographic world by publishing a system which the majority of the phonographers would be glad to use and which has served us so well, had not the Messrs. Pitman themselves commenced the work of experiment and change. Mv. Benn Pitman, within eigh~ teen months, has introduced an f-hoolc (which, however, is not distinct from the shn-hook!
